Your new candles have arrived and you can't wait to light one and settle in for the evening! Before you do, here are a few tips to get the longest and safest burn from your candles.
Before burning: Trim your wick to about 6 millimetres before you light your candle. Use a wick trimmer or even a tissue between your fingers to pinch down the burnt wick. If there are any visible cracks in the glass, don't burn the candle and instead get in touch with the manufacturer. If your candle was made-to-order and arrived with a burn-after date, please wait to burn the candle to allow it to finish curing and for stronger fragrance.
The first burn: Be sure to light your candle for the first time when you've got a few hours to spare. Burn your container candle to the outer edge to avoid tunnelling. The larger the candle, the longer this will take. For pillar candles, burn until you reach around 8 millimetres from the edge before extinguishing and allowing to re-harden. Don't be tempted to power burn your candles. You'll waste precious fragrance and risk overheating the vessel.
While burning: Never move a burning candle and keep it within eyesight. Burn on a flat, heatproof surface and keep surrounding items away from the flame to minimise the risk of a fire. Keep children and pets at a safe distance also. Don't be alarmed at any air bubbles or wax discolouration. Our pure soy wax and high concentration of fragrance oil often darken the wax as it burns.
Extinguishing your candle: Use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish a flame safely. Never extinguish with water and be sure to properly extinguish any embers before leaving the wax to cool and re-harden completely.
Stop burning your candle when there is only a centimetre of wax left. Allow the wax to solidify before cleaning and reusing the vessel.
Storing your candles: Pure soy candles have a tendency to frost over time. This is not a defect and frosted candles will burn just as well as a newer candle. Store candles in a cool place away from light.
For stronger fragrance throw: Burn in smaller spaces with doors and windows shut.
